Create a new map
Build your first store-locator page, and learn how to open, rename and delete maps in the list.
A map is the store-locator page you build — your store data plus the way that data is presented. This page covers creating your first map, as well as opening, renaming and deleting maps in the list.
The Map list page
The Maps entry in the sidebar (also the default page after signing in) shows all of your maps. Each map is a card with:
- A preview image (thumbnail).
- The map name, with a pencil icon to rename it.
- When it was last edited.
Hovering over the preview image reveals two buttons: open the map and delete.
Seeing which maps are public
The card does not show publication status. Use the filter at the top of the list to show only published or unpublished maps. See the Publishing & sharing section for more.
Creating a map
On the Maps page, click Create new map. The dialog walks you through three steps; use Next to move forward and Back to correct an earlier step.
Step 1 — Choose a data file
- Map name — pick something recognisable, for example "Nationwide store network".
- Data — tick one or more datasets that already exist in your account.
- Upload data — if you have none yet, upload a file right here. Supported:
.csv,.geojson,.json,.kml,.gpkg,.gml, and a.zipcontaining a complete Shapefile set; you can select several files at once. Each file shows its own progress bar and its own error message if the upload fails.
A map needs data from the very first step
Unlike many other tools, here you choose the data while creating the map — you do not create an empty map and add data later. If you have no data and no file to upload yet, read Preparing your data first; getting the format right from the start saves rework.
Step 2 — Customize the appearance
The screen splits in two: on the left, the datasets you just picked; on the right, the Appearance panel. Click each dataset on the left to adjust how that one is displayed.
You can move through this step quickly — every setting can be changed later in the map editor, see Display customization.
Step 3 — Confirm
Review the details and click Finish. The system creates the map and opens the editor straight away so you can keep working — no need to go back to the list and click in.
Tip
You can create several maps for different purposes (by region, by brand, by campaign...). They all share the same Datasets store, so one dataset can appear on many maps.
Your plan limits how many maps you can create
Each service plan allows a certain number of maps. When you reach the limit, the system shows a plan comparison and invites you to upgrade instead of creating another map.
What to do next
Your new map already has data in it. To finish it off and get it in front of customers:
- Customize the display (icons, colours, labels, popups) for your brand → Display customization.
- Add or edit stores directly on the map → Managing stores.
- Add other data layers if you need several groups of points → Managing data layers.
- Publish & share it with customers → the Publishing & sharing section.
Opening a map
Click a map card in the list to enter the editor. There you manage data layers, adjust styling, add and edit stores, and publish (see Interface & features).
Renaming a map
Two ways:
- On the map card: click the pencil icon next to the map name.
- In the editor: click the map name in the top toolbar to edit it in place, then Save.
Deleting a map
- Hover over the preview image of the map card and click the trash icon.
- Confirm in the dialog.
Warning
Deleting a map cannot be undone. However, the source data in Datasets remains — only the map and its display arrangement are removed. You can create a new map and add the data back at any time.
Published maps
If a map is published, keep in mind:
- Customers are viewing it through the shared link or the embed.
- Data edits (stores, images, hours) reach them as soon as you click Save.
- Appearance changes (icons, colours, labels, popups, basemap, adding/removing layers) reach them only after you publish again.
- If you delete a published map, the shared link and embed stop working.
